The Marine Museum of Manitoba in Selkirk displays the historical past of the Red River and Lake Winnipeg. The museum was founded in 1972- 1973 with the aim to maintain a collection of artifacts, ships and items that related to marine life on Lake Winnipeg and the Red River.

The museum displays items dating back to 1850 and continues till present day. It is a nonprofit organization administered by a board comprising local citizens and is supported by the city government of Selkirk and local businesses. The historical and cultural monument also receives assistance from the provincial and federal government.

The mission of the Marine Museum of Manitoba is to collect, preserve, research and display a variety of historical items and artifacts related to the province’s maritime history and life.

The S.S. Keenora built in 1897, Manitoba’s oldest steamship; C.G.S Bradbury (1915); and Chickama II (1942) are some of the ships displayed at the museum. The S.S. Keenora also houses a souvenir shop for visitors. The museum offers student tours and educational material packages for schools.

The George Dorman Room at the museum offers its facilities for banquets and conferences. It can accommodate up to 60 guests. Additionally, the museum offers a variety of fun and exciting stuff for kids.

The Marine Museum of Manitoba (Selkirk) Inc undertakes several restoration and renovation work on ships throughout the year. Currently the museum is undertaking restoration work with the support of the Winnipeg Foundation and the Selkirk & District Community Foundation. It also invites voluntary labor contributions for the preservation of Manitoba’s marine history.

The museum is a must see for Manitobans and ship lovers throughout the world.
